Trial Behavior

Your MadCap Flare Online trial is good for 30 days from sign up. During the trial you are free to invite an unlimited number of users to your account and free to use an unlimited amount of storage capacity. While in trial mode, the compilers in MadCap Flare Online will scramble the outputs.

All data, including user accounts, projects and settings implemented during trial will be preserved and accessible upon the purchase (within the application or by contacting sales) of a MadCap Flare Online subscription.

Your content will never be locked up. Backups are performed continuously, and you always have the possibility to export your data at the click of a button from within MadCap Flare Online.

Security and privacy is our top priority at MadCap Software. Additionally, we partner and host your content with Microsoft® Azure to ensure your content and data is safe and secure. All data is hosted in secure SSAE 16 / SOC 2 certified Microsoft Azure data centers, and data is encrypted both in transfer and at rest, to better protect your information. In choosing a partner, we focused on selecting a security center that understands the importance of privacy and complies with the highest international and industry-specific compliance standards and uptime guarantees.

Yes, if you do not wish to store your content in MadCap Central, you can still use the output analytics feature. This information is obtained using the proprietary MadCap Tracking Code, which is voluntarily enabled by you and installed on web pages created using MadCap Flare for the purpose of collecting usage data. No content itself is located or stored in the cloud. MadCap Central only serves the purpose of displaying these reports.

If there are conflicts, they can be handled in Flare’s conflict resolution manager.

Similar to Git, the last push to MadCap Flare Online becomes the final copy.

Yes, the MadCap Flare Online repository is a version of Git.

Merge handling is managed in MadCap Flare, rather than MadCap Flare Online, using the source control interface in Flare.

In terms of source control, a commit allows you to add your local changes to the local source control database. You can then finish by pushing the changes to the repository in MadCap Flare Online.

Yes.

Yes, MadCap Flare Online allows you to keep and manage builds. If you need to roll back to previous versions of your output, they will be available on MadCap Flare Online.

User Management

You can see when certain activities within a project happen, such as when a build was completed, or when a build is set to live.

Yes, and you can use the built in source control functionality to help with the process.

Yes, a single user can be assigned to multiple teams.

Users can see all projects in MadCap Central, but cannot access the project(s) unless they have been assigned to the project. In MadCap Flare, the user will only see the projects that have been assigned to them.

As the Admin for your MadCap Flare Online license, you will work with your IT department to get the required information from your SSO provider. Enter this information into the MadCap Flare Online SSO Authentication Settings tab.

Yes, MadCap Central’s SSO feature is SAML 2.0 compliant.

Yes, currently this is included in a standard MadCap Flare Online license, but as this feature expands, it may require a separate purchase for this additional functionality.

There are two options to onboard users when you have SSO enabled.

  1. For private sites, the Admin can send the link to the site where users can log in via their IdP. Users are added as Viewers by default. Once logged in, the Admin can change the role type of the user to Author or SME.
  2. To invite Authors or SMEs using the New User Wizard, the Admin can add users in MadCap central and an email will be sent providing the option to log in with new MadCap Central credentials or via their IdP.
Build Management icon

Build Management

From MadCap Flare Online, you can roll back to a build and set it to live. If you need to roll back to a state of a file at a certain time, you would do this in MadCap Flare, using the source control options available from within Flare.

Correct, MadCap Flare Online can host the output live, or you can download it to distribute on your own.
